THREE READING TRAILS

Choose the question
on your desk.

  1. 01

    Understand the contribution

Shared research services, departmental support and application work.

  2. 02

    Check the level of evidence

Institution stories, specific vacancies and conditions that still need confirmation.

  3. 03

    Make your work explainable

Safe samples, readable records and bounded evidence of what you can do.

A SMALL RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The Evidence Ladder

Choose a workstream and the level of evidence you have. Get a reading task, a useful output and the question that keeps the conclusion honest.

Fixed editorial guidance. No scoring, eligibility decisions, personal inputs or connection to UTSW.

Use four evidence levels: institution for purpose, function or program for scope, position or applicability for exact conditions, and authorized confirmation for an individual unresolved term. Keep the level attached to the claim.

  • Faculty & departmental support: List recurring outputs: schedules, review material or meeting records. Mark which output is actually described. Which recurring output does this position own, and who reviews it before the next handoff? Scope limit: No scientific authorship, hiring eligibility or private departmental process is inferred. Official source · Independent guide.
  • Sponsored-project administration: Separate investigator, department, central administration and sponsor contributions; identify a handoff rather than inventing authority. Which part of the proposal or award handoff does the position prepare, review or route? Scope limit: No award, contract, spending or submission decision is made. Official source · Independent guide.
  • Research application support: Name the service, the data boundary and the kind of authorized change. A product name alone is incomplete evidence. How does the position divide recurring support, planned changes and project work? Scope limit: No account access, architecture test, migration prediction or technical authorization. Official source · Independent guide.
  • Shared-facility services: Identify the service, its next user and the position’s contribution. Keep consultation, operation and coordination distinct. What makes a request complete, and which responsibilities need local training or authorization? Scope limit: A facility directory is not a vacancy list or permission to operate equipment. Official source · Independent guide.
  • Learning-program scope: Separate employee conditions, kind of study, approval timing and reimbursable costs. Degree and certification routes are different questions. Does the current program cover this kind of study, and what must be confirmed before committing money? Scope limit: No reimbursement guarantee, course recommendation or personal eligibility decision. Official source · Independent guide.
  • Benefits document periods: Record audience, document period, effective date if stated and date checked in separate fields. Which current document applies to the exact employee category and period under discussion? Scope limit: No coverage, enrollment, financial or retirement recommendation. Official source · Independent guide.

A SMALL READING HABIT

Put the year
beside the claim.

A benefit overview, a program document and an individual answer have different scopes. Keep the audience and period visible.

A source register preserves title and URL, scope, time and unresolved question.
